    Month: September 2019

We continue another longstanding  tradition on Sunday October 27 at 5:30 with the return of SUNDAY NIGHT AT THE OPERA’s Annual Halloween Party.

This particular evening is entitled “SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES,” which is a tribute both to the original quote from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and to the 1962 Ray Bradbury novel of the same name. Either way, you can be sure that witches, nightmares and things that go bump in the night are involved.

The way we see it, Halloween and Opera make perfect companions. Many of the most memorable characters in Opera include witches and warlocks, magicians, supernatural beings, emotional monsters, evil villains, and even the Devil himself. As always the program will be presented by Opera-On-Tap.

OPERA-ON-TAP is a group of professional singers and musicians based in Boston. Under the supervision of our Resident Diva, Mezzo Soprano Gina Razon, each cast designs, rehearses and performs a completely unique program comprised of a mixture of classical opera, musicals and song.

    Christina English, Mezzo Soprano

    Abigail Whitney Smith, Soprano

    Wes Hunter, Tenor

    Max Ryndqvst, Baritone

    Sally Vanderploeg, Collaborative Pianist

    Selections Include:

Mab la reine des mensonges by Charles Gounod

    Erlkönig by Franz Schubert

O my lyre immortelle from Sapho by Charles Gounod

Funeral Blues from Cabaret Songs by Benjamin Britten

Furie Terribili from Rinaldo by Handel

Tower Scene from Turn of the Screw by Benjamin Britten

Caliban’s aria  from The Tempest by Henry Purcell

Where Art thou Venue from The Rake’s Progress by Igor Stravinsky

The format for this evening remains the same as in the past: Three sets of live music, interrupted only by three courses of Italian food served family-style. The atmosphere is informal and relaxed. The menu will be announced shortly.

P.S. Costumes are not required, but always welcome, even encouraged. Consider this evening a dress rehearsal for the actual Halloween night.

Cost for Sunday Night at the Opera is $60/pp. This includes all food and entertainment. Please make your reservations by calling the restaurant in person at 617-924-9475. This will insure prompt confirmation of your reservation.
