Our first Opera Night of the season was held on Thursday October 10th, focusing on the 200th birthday of Guiseppe Verdi, and was a complete success. A sold out crowd enthusiastically applauded the efforts of the singers from Boston-based group Opera-On-Tap as they regaled them with a program of selections covering every phase of Guiseppe Verdi’s career.
Ably supported by Julia Carey on the piano, the singers inlcuded Abigail Krawson, Sara Oettinger and Rachele Schmiege, sopranos; Gina Razon, mezzo; Sean Malkus, tenor; and Justin Hicks, baritone. Four sets of arias were followed by a double encore consisting of the famous Quartet from Rigoletto and the Brindisi from La Traviata.
The meal served in between the musical numbers was representative of the cuisine of Verdi’s home region, Emilia-Romagna. It included individual mixed antipasti with freshly-baked Schiacciata harvest bread, handmade Fettucine alla Bolognese, Grilled Swordfish, Veal Scallopine alla Francese, and a delicate Panna Cotta with raisin sauce.
This same program will be repeated on Thursday October 17th. The tables for that event are completely sold out, and we are already starting to take reservations for the upcoming Sunday Night at the Opera on Sunday November 3rd.
