Get your tastebuds ready for the arrival of cooler weather with a tasting of some of the biggest and most elegant red wines at our Big Autumn tasting at 6:30 PM on Thursday Nov 7th.
Start with the “Barolo of the South”, a Taurasi made from 100% Aglianico grapes by members of the legendary Mastroberardino family at their Terradora winery in Campania.
Compare it with an authentic Barolo from Pecchenino. “Ripe…Full-bodied…velvety and caressing….A superb debut Barolo from Piedmont’s best Dolcetto producer.” Wine Spectator, 95 points!
We’ll head, metaphorically, to a hilltop vineyard located amid Grecian ruins along the Sicilian coast to taste the rich, heady Nero d’Avola of Feudi del Pisciotto.
Finally it’s off to Tuscany to compare two Sangiovese-based wines. From the Maremma comes a Super-Tuscan blend, Le Sughere (“the cork tree”) from Frassinello. “Dark and brooding….Muscular and firm…” Wine Spectator, 90 points!
Then it’s up winding, twisting roads to the hilltop village of Montalcino to try the Brunello of Fossacolle. “…bursts onto the palate with waves of dark red fruit and a soft, voluptuous texture that is truly beautiful.” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 93 points!
The tasting will be accompanied by an assortment of appetizers. Mark Fratto of M.S.Walker will lead the tasting with comments and insights.
